Hello,
I’m Gülin Çavuş. I’m a journalist and media expert who has been working for years to combat misinformation. As one of the co-founders of Teyit, I have experienced firsthand how difficult but also how vital, it is to access accurate information in the digital world. I have written countless articles, conducted interviews, and delivered trainings on this topic. I can say that I am well-versed in scientific methods, source verification, and digital literacy.
However, nothing made me feel the real impact of information on human life as strikingly as the process that began with my father’s cancer diagnosis.
Cancer is not only a disease; it is also a process in which patients and their loved ones have to cope with a huge information load, contradictory advice, and confusing content. During my father’s treatment, despite all my professional experience, I often found myself unsure of what to believe and which information to take seriously.
But what about those who are not familiar with this field at all? What about people left alone with content from every corner of the internet that reeks of false hope and exploitation?
These questions led me to launch CancerDisinfo.
CancerDisinfo is a media and community initiative that identifies misleading or incomplete information about cancer and presents verified facts in a language everyone can understand. Our goal is to create a resource where patients, patients’ families, caregivers can easily access reliable information. We also aim to develop tools and trainings that will help healthcare professionals, journalists, and civil society become more cautious and responsible on this issue. Most importantly, we want this to be a meeting place where we can overcome challenges together.
This initiative was born from a personal story, but unfortunately, it is also the story of many others, and it is growing to meet a societal need. We will do our best to create a platform that can both build emotional connections and provide trustworthy content.
If you would like to support this effort, contribute content, help spread the word, or simply share your ideas, I would be delighted to have you as part of CancerDisinfo.
With love and solidarity,
