CancerDisinfo is an independent media and community initiative dedicated to exposing and countering cancer-related misinformation. We aim to protect public health by providing accessible, science-based information for patients, caregivers, and the general public in a digital age where false claims can spread faster than facts.

Our Team

Öyküm Hüma Keskin
Editorial Lead
A former Teyit fact-checker, editor, and video host, Öyküm is known for her sharp, ethical storytelling on health misinformation and her close collaborations with health-focused NGOs. As a Meta Health Fellow, she explored the intersection of public health and media. In 2024, she received the Global Fact award for the Most Impactful Fact-Checking.

Murad Karabulut
Community Lead
He has been working on health communication, health literacy, digital health, corporate communication, and gender equality within civil society organizations. His thesis focused on “Wellness Culture on Social Media.” He has taken on various responsibilities in different positions at the Turkish Pharmacists’ Association, the Foundation for Children with Leukemia (LÖSEV), Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV).

Gülin Çavuş
Project Lead
Co-founder of Teyit, Turkish fact-checking organization and a former governance body member at the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN). She led numerous projects on media literacy, monitoring information disorder during times of crisis, and exploring the intersection of technology and policy
In 2024, she founded Yapay Gündem, a platform that focuses on the societal impacts of AI.

Esra Özgür
Training Lead
Esra is a facilitator and learning program designer who creates and leads projects in the field of critical digital literacy. She previously led educational initiatives as the Head of Education at Teyit, a fact-checking platform, focusing on countering disinformation. She currently runs the Dijital Esenlik initiative, exploring how digital technologies affect and can support our well-being, and will also be coordinating the educational content and programs for the CancerDisinfo project.

Can Başaçek
Communication Responsible
A social media specialist with over five years of experience in media, Can is passionate about digital wellbeing, media literacy, and building meaningful online connections.

Mert Can Yılmaz
Data Expert
Mert Can is a co-founder of Yapay Gündem and a research engineer at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University. He works as a senior analyst at the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), focusing on AI-assisted data collection methods.
He contributes to the Peace Research Infrastructure project coordinated by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and writes on AI ethics for various journals and online platforms.
A network of dedicated volunteers, medical advisors, and content contributors who ensure that our work is collaborative, credible, and responsive to emerging threats.
We currently publish in Turkish and English, aiming to serve audiences both in Türkiye and across Europe. We plan to expand our coverage into high-risk countries where cancer misinformation is on the rise, such as Italy, Germany, and Hungary.
At CancerDisinfo, we believe accurate health information saves lives and every article, workshop, and stakeholder meeting we lead brings us one step closer to a better-informed public.

Organization Structure
CancerDisinfo operates under Obcordate Bilişim ve Danışmanlık LTD ŞTİ., a private company established in Türkiye. The sole owner of the company is Gülin Çavuş, who also serves as the founder and lead strategist of CancerDisinfo. The company is officially registered with the registration number [1062404], and serves as the legal and administrative body supporting CancerDisinfo’s operations, partnerships, and financial transactions.
